Italian journalist Luigi Garlando believes that Inter will have a psychological advantage over AC Milan heading into the Milan derby over the break.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the journalist noted how the Rossoneri will feel greater pressure to get the result while the Nerazzurri will be relatively freer in their mindset.

Inter are four points clear of their city rivals with a game in hand, and will feel that even a draw against the Rossoneri would be a step towards the Serie A title.

Milan, meanwhile, will know that three points in the derby would be an opportunity which they can hardly pass up, as they will otherwise be completely reliant on slip-ups from the Nerazzurri even if they are in their best form over the rest of the campaign.

Garlando noted this, writing that for Milan”The derby on 6 February can be used to shorten the gap between the two, but the Nerazzurri will come at it with better morale.”

For the Rossoneri, he writes, “The derby has become something prickly, to be handled with the utmost caution.”
