Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni believes that Romelu Lukaku is Inter’s best striker even though he does not yet have the same kind of chemistry with the rest of the team in possession that Edin Dzeko does.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, Zazzaroni gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s striker situation, whilst he also gave the view that the Nerazzurri’s opening day win over Lecce had been a disappointing performance despite the result.

Lukaku rejoins a much different Inter team than the one that he left twelve months ago, with Dzeko having come in as his replacement and become a real focal point in the more methodical possession-based game of new coach Simone Inzaghi.

In the Lecce match, there were signs that the team was failing to link up the way that it did last season at its best, with Lukaku and strike partner Edin Dzeko not really able to bring midfielders into play.

However, the Belgian did take the team’s opening goal very well, and his qualities as a centre-forward are hardly up for debate.

“Edin makes the play better, Romelu is better,” was Zazzaroni’s assessment of the two strikers. “Dzeko has some moments in which he is completely uninvolved in the game. Lukaku is much better.”

Zazzaroni also gave a negative review of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener, stating that “Inter were the big team that I didn’t think played well. They didn’t really get going and they had to suffer, even though they had the quality to win in the end.”
