Italian journalist Daniele Fortuna is questioning why defender Mateo Musacchio did not earn the start for Lazio against Inter Milan.
Musacchio had made two appearances for the Biancocelesti heading into the fixture against Inter Milan. He had a pair of strong showings in helping the side clinch two wins.
Still, Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi elected to go with Wesley Hoedt and Patric to start alongside Francesco Acerbi in the team’s backline. Lazio allowed three goals scored and seven shots on target to Inter in the match.
Fortuna (via Cittaceleste) is unsure on why Musacchio did not start for Lazio, but in the big picture, he sees that the side must avoid mistakes if it wants to move into a top-four spot in the league table.
If Inzaghi misses a starting defender things change. I was also surprised that Hoedt played and not Musacchio. We all remember the points lost by Lazio in the first part of the season. If Inzaghi’s team wants to reach fourth place, they must not repeat the same mistakes.
Lazio will have the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against FC Bayern Munich coming up next week. Fortuna sees that Lazio is doing well to prep for this upcoming major fixture.
I think Lazio are preparing really well for the match against Bayern Munich. It’s not such a predictable match.
Before Lazio takes on Bayern, it will have a home league fixture against Sampdoria.
