Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that it cannot be ruled out that defender Milan Skriniar could leave Inter on a free transfer at the end of the current season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TeleLombardia, Biasin outlined the current situation of the Slovakian, whose contract expires at the end of June 2023 as things stand, and also stated that the Nerazzurri had planned to replace him with Nikola Milenkovic and Bremer in the summer.

Inter are hoping that they can extend the contract of Skriniar, but there is no guarantee that this will happen, and if an agreement isn’t found once the talks begin then there is little certainty as to what will happen.

Losing a player of Skriniar’s quality would be an eventuality that the Nerazzurri would be very keen to avoid, and they reportedly could even consider allowing him to leave in January for the right offer, but Biasin isn’t so sure.

“Inter, when they decided not to sell him in the summer, decided that they would keep him for this season, which also meant risking losing him on a free transfer,” he explained.

“Either sell him in the summer and search for a replacement, or go forward with him,” he continued. “I strongly doubt that they would decide to sell him mid-season, he’s already started the campaign and in my opinion he would want to see it out.”

“He’s tasked with doing what all professional footballers are, which is to try and win something with the team,” he continued.

Biasin predicted that “Leaving on a free transfer would be a real possibility, although it would perhaps be better to leave by winning a trophy.”

Hr also reported that “Inter had two plans in the summer for the defense: sell Skriniar and replace him with Bremer and Milenkovic, or keep Skriniar even at the risk of losing him on a free transfer.”
