Italian football director Male Mpasinkatu feels that it is not quite clear why Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana has fallen out with Cameroon national team coach Rigobert Song based on sources he’s spoken with.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Mpasinkatu explained that some of his sources have told him that the disagreement between the pair strictly concerned tactics, whilst others have told him that there is a more personal disagreement.

Onana’s World Cup in Qatar looks to be over, given that he has left the Cameroon squad after having been dropped from the team for this afternoon’s group stage match against Serbia.

What is clear is that the 26-year-old’s coach Song decided to drop him from the starting eleven and then from the squad altogether due to a disagreement that the pair had.

However, there have been conflicting reports as to the exact nature and source of the disagreement, and according to Mpasinkatu, his sources have been similarly ambiguous.

“It’s hard to say what happened,” the director said.

“I tried to hear from my sources, but there are conflicting accounts.”

“From what I understand, it was a disagreement about the goalkeeper’s tactical ideas that caused the initial disagreement,” he continued.

“Others say it’s a clash of personalities.”

Mpasinkatu noted that “In these cases, peace must be made immediately, because both coach and goalkeeper are fundamental.”
