It would cost Inter and AC Milan an additional €200 million to raise the capacity of their new stadium beyond 65,000, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Tuttosport, many have been wondering why the proposed plans for the new stadium see the capacity drop from the current 75,817 seats at the San Siro to a lower 65,000 at the Cathedral.

It has been revealed at the first of the ten meetings of the public debate that it would cost €200 million to build another ring of seating and raise the capacity any higher than 65,000.

The clubs have calculated that in the last six seasons, the turnout at San Siro has exceeded 65,000 in only 15% of the matches. That means that it is not financially viable to increase the capacity any higher only for the seats to potentially remain empty for the majority of the matches that Inter and AC Milan play.
