Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that her side are excited to face Barclays Women’s Super League title rivals Manchester City this weekend.

The Blues play host to The Cityzens at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor highlighted the importance of the game whilst adding that her side are really looking forward to testing themselves against Manchester City.

“It’s obviously an important game against a very good team,” Bompastor said. “It’ll be two good teams with a good dynamic and good results, so we are looking forward to it, we are really excited.

“My job as a manager is to make sure the players get the game plan right for tomorrow. We practiced this morning and I think everything is so clear in every player’s head. We feel ready even if we are expecting a tough game. Manchester City are doing well and have great players but it will be a fun game for everyone, especially the fans.”

Bompastor did not wish to compare last season’s Manchester City side against this year’s team but she admitted that The Cityzens are currently in a great place, the same as Chelsea.

She said “Last season, they went close to winning the title, they only lost out on goal difference, so that shows the quality that they have. They started really well this season and have a really good dynamic. They are a team that are in a really good place with us at the moment and it will be a great game to play.”

Chelsea will play a league fixture at Stamford Bridge for the first time this season and Bompastor says that the team are looking forward to being back at their traditional home.

She said “It’s really good. We always want to play at the big stadiums in a nice environment. It was the case in the Celtic game, playing away.

“We are so happy to be back at Stamford Bridge. We have a lot of history in that stadium, the players really love to play there and feeling the support of the fans will be good.”
