Pierre-Emile Højbjerg calls out Tottenham Hotspur for ‘absolutely unacceptable’ run of form

In conversation with Tipsbladet via Sport Witness (h/t Football London), Tottenham Hotspur ace Pierre-Emile Højbjerg spoke out on his team’s unacceptable form recently.

The Lilywhites had to endure a horrible spell in recent times when they lost 3 consecutive Premier League matches to fellow London clubs Crystal Palace, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Spurs returned to winning ways with a crucial victory against Aston Villa when the former Southampton man scored an exquisite goal for Spurs as he fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The win was then secured thanks to an own goal by the Villain defender Matt Targett.

The Danish international has highlighted his views about their current condition:

“It was important to get back on the right keel after conceding nine goals in three games. It is absolutely unacceptable, especially when you only score one goal yourself. It was not fun to be a part of.”

Spurs started the season in great fashion as they recorded 3 straight victories which was then mirrored by a trail of disappointing results. Tottenham’s main man Harry Kane has yet to open his account for the North London club in the PL this season but has managed to score for the club in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The Lilywhites have been struggling to fire on all cylinders this season and the 26-year-old midfielder points that out:

“Even when we won three matches, we were well aware that we did not do things perfectly and were still in a process. Now, we luckily got a victory over Aston Villa, so overall it looks OK after seven games. We are four points behind first, so if we stick to now, it may well be OK.”

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will be looking to get back from the international break and continue their winning ways. Tottenham Hotspur haven’t played in Europe’s most prestigious UEFA Champions league for quite a while and haven’t won any silverware in 13 years now.

The owners and the squad would like to see that statistic change sooner rather than later but Spurs will have to be more consistent in their performances if they want to stand a chance of winning any titles.
