SV Werder Bremen took home a point following a 2-2 draw in Dortmund on Saturday, but were left feeling dissatisfied with their performance during the first half. WERDER.DE have summed up all the post-match reaction from within the team.
Ole Werner, head coach: "It took us scoring to find our way into the game at all. We wanted to be aggressive and tough to play against, but we didn't manage to do that at all – not when it was 11v11 or when it was 10v11. Once we'd gotten a goal back, it gave us something to believe in, which is why I'm satisfied with the spirit we showed and with how our substitutes performed. I'm not happy, however, with the first 55 minutes."
Marco Friedl, captain: "We played poorly during the first 60 minutes. If you find yourself playing with an extra man for more than 70 minutes in Dortmund, then you simply have to do better with that opportunity. The last 30 minutes were much better, because we did a lot of things right during that time. That's why we deserved the point, but overall, we should have taken more from today's game."
Leonardo Bittencourt, goalscorer to make it 2-1: "It's obvious that we didn't play well over the first 60 minutes. We shouldn't have conceded in the way that we did and in doing so, we allowed a team that wasn't at full strength to find their way back into the game. On the one hand, we can be happy to have taken a point today, but on the other, we also missed out on a chance to take home all three. Whenever the coach brings players in from off the bench, they have a chance to help change the game. Sometimes, a goal from out of nowhere is just what you need to get back into the game."
Marvin Ducksch, goalscorer to make it 2-2: "We took far too long to find our way into the game, which is why we could have maybe taken more from it. It's inexcusable that it took us so long to get into the game. We weren't playing with a lack of confidence, but rather we were missing a bit of luck at the back. If you find yourself enjoying a man advantage for that long and still only manage to get into the game late on, then you have to be content with taking just a point home with you."
