Pundit Noel Whelan believes that Jurgen Klopp does not trust Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool came up against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield last weekend. The Premier League fixture was level at 3-3 after 83 minutes of action.

Klopp did not bring Nunez onto the pitch until the dying moments of the game.

Whelan has said the following about the aforementioned situation.

“It says a lot that Nunez did not come on until the final minute,” he told Football Insider.

“If Klopp trusted him and thought he could score the winner, he would have brought him on earlier.

“He obviously thought he had better options, and that’s not a surprise given (Diogo) Jota’s scoring record, really.

“Nunez is still finding his way in English football and that red card and suspension (against Crystal Palace) really set him back. It will be in the back of the manager’s mind and it will take some time for him to get the trust of Klopp. He was obviously raging over that.

“Nunez is the record signing and will need time to adapt. But it could be some time before he is a regular starter.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

As Whelan pointed out, Nunez is yet to cement his place in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI.

But, there is a reason why Liverpool paid Benfica €75 million for the striker's services during the recent summer transfer window.

Nunez is clearly a capable player. The Uruguay international is yet to settle into his new environment.

Hopefully Nunez can find his feet sooner rather than later. He is only 23 years of age. So, Nunez's career is only just beginning, which is a positive thing.
