Manchester City vice-captain Kevin De Bruyne has sent an emotional message to supporters following his return to goalscoring action for the club at the weekend.

The Belgium international captain returned to Premier League action with a goal and an assist to ensure Manchester City would complete a second-half comeback over Eddie Howe’s side to win 2-3 on the night.

Oscar Bobb would score the winning goal in the game, combining with De Bruyne to round Martin Dubravka and slot home into an empty net, sparking wild celebrations and a serenading from the travelling supporters.

It was also another night where Manchester City fans showed their love and support for the returning Kevin De Bruyne, who is back in Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans having recovered from a five-month hamstring injury and subsequent surgery last summer.

Speaking to ManCity.com after the victory in the north-east, Kevin De Bruyne described the warm welcome back from Manchester City supporters as “amazing”, insisting that he feels “very loved” by the Etihad Stadium faithful.

“You know, I think honestly it’s amazing,” De Bruyne opened. “I’m not the person who goes around and be very emotional, but obviously I know, I felt what it means for all of them for me to come back and I tried to help the team win and perform and try to do my job.”

He continued, “I appreciate everything, it makes me feel very loved and it’s amazing!”

Kevin De Bruyne and his Manchester City teammates are expected to jet off to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates for a warm weather training camp on Thursday, after spending some time with family and friends during the first portion of this week.

City will be focussing their preparations and plans on their next game, which comes against Tottenham Hotspur in the capital in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round, having progressed in the competition with a 5-0 home victory over Championship strugglers Huddersfield.
