‘It is important’ – Rivaldo urges Hansi Flick to fix key Barcelona issue | OneFootball

Barcelona are currently top of the table in La Liga, but in such a tight race against rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, every point will be important.

The Blaugrana are the highest scorers in the division by some distance, with an astonishing 67 goals in 25 games, but there have been concerns defensively.

Barcelona have conceded 25 goals this season, more than anyone else in the top four, whilst they blew a 4-2 lead to draw 4-4 against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final.

Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have played with a high defensive line, seeking to catch the opposition with the offside trap, but this was exposed against Atletico Madrid, as Alex Sorloth netted a late equaliser.

Speaking to SPORT, Barcelona legend Rivaldo claimed that if his former side are to win major honours this season, they will need to play with more discipline when it comes to their high line.

“Everyone likes a high-scoring game, but when there are so many goals, it is certainly because there were a lot of defensive errors,” he stated of the 4-4 draw.

“A game of this level has the creativity of some of the best players in the world, but a result like this is surprising. Luckily for both teams, it ended in a draw. But what if one team had been more successful defensively? It could have been 4-0 or 4-2.”

Rivaldo then had some words of advice for Flick, stating the need to fix the defence to match the quality of the attack.

“It is important to pay more attention. I think Flick must correct the defensive errors if he wants to have a chance of winning titles this season.”

Barcelona have had a promising campaign under Flick, but there are plenty of challenges ahead as they aim to win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa Del Rey.
