Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp admitted that she was delighted to see her wait for a first England goal come to an end in spectacular fashion against Latvia in Doncaster last night.

The 21-year-old netted four times for the Lionesses on a truly bonkers night at The Keepmoat Stadium in which England scored 20 goals with out reply, a record scoreline for the nation.

Hemp had gone 13 games without an England goal but that frustrating record no longer stands after the player smashed it in style. When speaking in the post-match press conference, Hemp admitted that she had waited a long time for her first England goals.

“I think it has been a long time coming,” Hemp said. “I think I am lucky to be surrounded by really talented players that just put the ball on a plate for me. I think I was just in the right place, at the right time.

“I am happy to get on the scoresheet today and like I say, I am just lucky to be surrounded by so many great people and coaches.”

With England having scored 20 goals for the very first time in their history, Hemp went on to say that the players will return to their respective clubs in good spirits.

She said “The goals definitely help with confidence. It shows that we have a lot of quality players. It was nice for so many people to get on the scoresheet tonight. It will just help everyone’s confidence and form going back to clubs in the WSL.”

Hemp was the only England player to score four against Latvia. There were hat-tricks for Beth Mead, Ellen White and Alessia Russo while Beth England netted a brace. Ella Toone, Georgia Stanway, Jess Carter, Jill Scott and Jordan Nobbs scored the other goals.
