AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic has admitted that it was time for the United States national team to ‘turn the page’, and he is looking forward to working with Mauricio Pochettino.

Pulisic got a goal for the United States on international duty, putting them into the lead against New Zealand after coming off the bench, but they were unable to hold on as they conceded an 89th-minute equaliser.

The caretaker manager Mikey Varas fielded a 4-4-2 formation that saw Yunus Musah start in the centre of midfield, and then in the second half he brought Pulisic on, taking Haji Wright’s place on the left wing.

It took him just 12 minutes to pick up the ball on the left side of the box and bury a low shot into the far corner, with a celebration that certainly resembled an outpouring of emotion.

Pulisic spoke after the 1-1 tie with New Zealand in a friendly on Tuesday night and he was asked about what the appointment of Pochettino means for the USMNT, with ESPN relaying his comments.

“It’s time to turn the page and we really have to pick it up a level. Everyone is part of this and it feels pretty low right now, but I know there’s better times ahead,” he said.

“Hopefully a culture that is willing to fight, that is willing to take risks. There’s a lot of things that need to change, just the mentality and the culture of the group.

“I think we have the quality but I know hopefully that’s the first thing that he is going to want to change.”
