It appears that one signing is already off the table for Manchester City on deadline day

Today’s transfer deadline looms as a pivotal in Manchester City’s season. It has been obvious for some time that Pep Guardiola’s squad is in desperate need of fresh players to bolster City’s chase for a top-four finish and potentially more. A midfielder and a full-back did appear to be the positions that Manchester City need to strengthen before the transfer window closes. Based on a new report it appears that City won’t be signing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso today. It now seems that one potential City deal is now off of the table.

Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT has reported via X that Andrea Cambiaso won’t be signed by Manchester City today. Furthermore, if City are to sign the Italian international it is a move that will have to wait until next summer.

Manchester City looks set to continue with what they have at the full-back position.

The full-back position has been a concern for Manchester City this season. With Kyle Walker having left City for AC Milan Pep Guardiola’s squad does appear to be short of full-backs. At right-back, it now seems that Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are set to share duties in the position. At left-back, the position is Josko Gvardiol’s to lose. Perhaps Christian McFarlane can step in at left-back. The young defender recently completed his move to Manchester City from fellow CFG club, New York City Football Club, earlier this month. The other option at left-back is Nathan Ake when he is fit. If Manchester City’s move for Cambiaso is off those will be Pep Guardiola’s options at full-back for the remainder of this season.

Andrea Cambiaso would’ve filled a hole in Pep Guardiola’s squad if City could’ve signed the versatile full-back. But for now, it seems that Cambiaso is set to remain at Juventus. If that proves to be the case it is imperative that City sign a midfielder. They simply cannot afford to not make any signings on deadline day. That’s the reality of the situation facing Manchester City. Attention will now likely shift to see if City can land the midfielder they desperately need over the coming hours.
