Ismaïla Sarr will travel to the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday to be assessed by Senegal’s medical staff, the Athletic report.

The Senegalese Football Association accused Watford of “disrespectful, pernicious and discriminatory behaviour” over the weekend after the Premier League club refused to release their forward despite him being named in Senegal’s 28-man squad.

Sarr has been out since November 20 after he suffered knee ligament damage in the Hornets’ 4-1 win over Manchester United.

But the Athletic are reporting that the winger will now travel to be looked at by the Senegal medical department.

Initial reports have suggested that, although Sarr will miss the group stages of the tournament, he could well be fit for the semi-final and final, should Senegal qualify.

Watford, however, are keen for Sarr to stay at the club and continue his rehabilitation with them.
