Foot Algerien are reporting that Islam Slimani is keen to remain at Anderlecht for the 2023/2024 season. The experienced Algerian striker is willing to reject financially attractive offers from the Middle-East in order to remain in Belgium, a move he believes gives him the best chance of making Algeria’s AFCON squad for the upcoming tournament in Cote d’Ivoire. Should the nations leading scoring make the squad for the January 2024 competition, it will almost certainly be his final AFCON. Slimani has scored 42 goals in 72 games for Algeria.

The 34-year-old former Sporting and Leicester City forward joined Anderlecht in January after a poor first half of the season with Brest. After just two goals in 18 games for the French side, Slimani proved to be a shrewd bit of business for the Mauves. Slimani scored an impressive nine goals in 16 appearances for Anderlecht, helping them to reach the latter stages of the Europa Conference League.

This form has helped improve his chances of being offered a new deal by Anderlecht, who by all accounts are apparently willing to extend the strikers stay. The side have also been linked with another player hoping for a spot at the upcoming AFCON, with former Anderlecht player Percy Tau reportedly on the clubs radar.
