There has been a remarkable transfer twist in Germany as Isco’s move to Union Berlin has fallen through.
Multiple reports linked the 30-year-old with a move to Bundesliga club, and it seemed as though the former Real Madrid man and five-time Champions League winner was hours away from pulling on a new jersey.
Isco arrived in Berlin on Monday night and underwent a medical on Tuesday morning but the deal has collapsed at the final moment.
“We would have loved to have Isco with us but we have our limits. Contrary to the previous agreement, our limit was breached today. That’s why a transfer has not happened,” said Union sporting director Oliver Ruhnert.
A source close to Isco told Transfermarkt that “our negotiating partners were no longer willing to move within the framework originally discussed.”
Isco spent part of the 2022/23 campaign with LaLiga side Sevilla before seeing his contract terminated after five months.
The deal would have been considered a major coup for the German side, who sit second in the Bundesliga at the moment one point behind Bayern Munich.
