Tottenham are being linked with a move for Real Madrid star Isco as a potential replacement for wantaway midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are preparing for the seemingly inevitable departure of Danish international Eriksen, who has entered the final year of his contract at the club and has revealed his desire for a new challenge.

The 27-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the summer, whilst Juventus and Manchester United were both tentatively linked with moves for the unsettled playmaker.

The Spanish side are expected to return for Eriksen, with Spurs facing a decision on whether to sell the Dane in the January transfer window or risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

However, according to El Desmarque, the club have begun preparations for Eriksen’s departure which include a potential move Real Madrid’s Isco, who has fallen out-of-favour under Zinedine Zidane this season and would be pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Eriksen.

The 27-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a key figure at the Bernabeu under a succession of managers, and has started just once so far in La Liga this season.

Spurs have previously been linked with bringing Isco to the Premier League, and a swap-deal could now be feasible with Eriksen reportedly having his heart set on a switch to the Spanish capital.
