Newcastle United will travel to City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest tonight in order to boost their chances of securing a Champions League place in the Premier League. The Magpies come into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, so we can expect them to give out a better performance for this contest.

Eddie Howe will probably opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to keep the changes to a minimum, so we can expect Alexander Isak to lead the line once again. At the same time, Nick Pope continues to operate between the sticks.

Defence

Nick Pope will operate in goal for the Magpies after shipping in a goal versus the Wolves recently. Fabian Schar will function alongside Sven Botman at the centre of Newcastle’s defence as they try to keep things solid at the back and keep the opposition attackers at bay during the game.

Kieran Trippier will operate as the right-back, while Dan Burn looks to impress on the other side as the left-back. Both of them would be instructed to maintain a solid shape when defending inside their half and try to engineer some promising chances for their teammates up top.

Matt Targett will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench. However, Emil Krafth will miss this game due to a knee injury.

Midfield

Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff will continue in the midfield as they focus on making life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park.

Joelinton remains suspended for this game after collecting ten yellow cards during this campaign. However, Elliot Anderson should be available for a place on the bench and might come on to give a good account of himself in the second half if required.

Attack

Allan Saint-Maximin will continue as the left-sided wide player while Miguel Almiron looks to catch the eye on the right. Both of them need to put their pace to good use when making runs behind the opponent’s backline.

Alexander Isak will continue to function as the focal point of Newcastle’s attack. The French striker has to find a way to threaten Nottingham’s goal during this contest.

Anthony Gordon will miss the game due to an ankle injury. However, Callum Wilson will take a spot on Howe’s bench as he waits for a chance to shine in the second half.
