Things haven’t started well this term, though. And they got even worse at the weekend.

Defender Abbie McManus looked to play a long ball back to goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck against Birmingham but a dodgy bounce saw it loop over the ‘keeper and send City a goal down.

City recovered to win the game 3-2 but manager Nick Cushing wasn’t best pleased.

“You can’t win football matches when you gift goals away,” said Cushing, who is under pressure after just four games with Man City fourth in the table and out of the Champions League.

“Although we’ve come back today, we need to cut out the mistakes because we’re giving ourselves a harder task.”

It certainly doesn’t get easier when you score wonder goals from inside your own half.
