An Irish 51-year-old Liverpool fan died last night while trying to cross the A4 highway close to the Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo, reports in Italy claim.

Multiple sources in Italy, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere della Sera, report a 51-year-old Liverpool fan from Ireland died after being hit by a vehicle Monday night.

The fan, whose identity is still unknown, was crossing the A4 highway close to the Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo.

The 51-year-old had landed in Italy from Manchester and was with two other people who were not at the scene when local authorities found the man’s body.

According to Il Corriere della Sera, he was a Liverpool fan from Ireland, and he had a ticket for tonight’s Champions League match between Milan and the Reds at San Siro in his pocket.

According to the report, he crossed the highway trying to reach the hotel where he would have slept, the NH Hotel.
