The Republic of Ireland have confirmed John O’Shea as the country’s interim coach for the upcoming international break.
The FAI have been looking for a new head coach for over six months now having announced Stephen Kelly’s departure last year following their failure to qualify for Euro 2024.
Chris Coleman, Lee Carsley and Sam Allardyce have all been linked with the job but so far a permanent coach hasn’t been forthcoming.
As such, O’Shea will now take charge of their next two friendly matches in March.
Ireland will face Belgium and Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium with the former Manchester United defender on the sidelines.
O’Shea was assistant to the national team in 2022 and was last seen as Wayne Rooney’s right-hand man at Birmingham.
A permanent Ireland coach is now likely to be named before the next international break in June.
