Well it took almost 17 entire games until, with the 42nd goal of the World Cup, we finally saw a strike from long range.
But that wasn’t all that was special about Iran’s late win or Roozbeh Cheshmi’s strike against Wales, which also goes down as the latest winning World Cup goal in normal time in history.
Or, at least since exact times have been kept, so since 1966.
Iran did, of course, add a second even later as they won 2-0 in dramatic fashion.
