Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has caught the attention of the footballing world due to his remarkable exploits with the Tractor Boys.

The 2022/23 League One season was McKenna's first full season with the Suffolk outfit, who he guided to a second place finish and automatic promotion to the Championship.

The Championship is renowned for being a difficult league, especially for sides who have just been promoted to the second tier from League One.

Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle were promoted alongside the Tractor Boys, and are finding life in the Championship tricky, as they find themselves locked in a relegation battle with just six games left.

On the other hand, McKenna's men look like they've been operating in the upper echelons of the second tier for years, and could be destined for back-to-back promotions as they sit top of the table.

Due to the Tractor Boys' incredible and unpredictable rise from League One to touching distance of the Premier League, McKenna has become a sought after manager.

Xabi Alonso news could lead to McKenna departure

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed that he is staying with his current club next season, while Die Werkself look on course to win the Bundesliga, which would prevent Bayern Munich claiming their 12th consecutive league title.

Alonso's Leverkusen are currently unbeaten in the league after 27 matches, which demonstrates why the Spaniard is such a sought-after manager.

Liverpool were said to be interested in the managerial services of their ex-player, following Jurgen Klopp's announcement that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the current season.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich, who Alonso also played for, were reportedly keen on the Spaniard, due to the fact that boss Thomas Tuchel is also leaving his club in the summer.

But given that Alonso is staying at Leverkusen, both European giants will have to look elsewhere to find their respective Klopp and Tuchel replacements.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi refused to commit to the Seagulls next season amid links to both Liverpool and Bayern.

Meanwhile, back in December, The Sun reported that the Seagulls have listed McKenna as a potential De Zerbi replacement, should their current boss leave Sussex.

The Alonso news could spell trouble for Town down the line as should the Brighton boss take charge at Liverpool or Bayern, the Seagulls may come calling for McKenna.

His impressive feats with the Tractor Boys could make him an ideal candidate to replace De Zerbi if necessary while the Brighton boss' exploits on the south coast could make him an exciting proposition for either Bayern or Liverpool.

McKenna will surely stay if the Tractor Boys win promotion

The main reason the Northern Irishman is so highly regarded by other clubs is because he has guided Ipswich from League One to the cusp of promotion to the Premier League.

But surely, if he earns promotion with his current club, he will not want to end his journey with the Suffolk outfit there, as he will have achieved the rare feat of back-to-back promotions.

The Tractor Boys are experiencing an unrelenting rise, and perhaps there could be more excitement in store for McKenna and co. in the Premier League next season.

McKenna will back himself to get offers from big clubs in the future and should he take them to the top flight, you have to think it would take a special offer for him to leave Portman Road.

Should they fall short, however, then it's hard to see him rejecting a Premier League job.
