As Ipswich Town prepare for life back in the Premier League, hard decisions will have to be made about a number of players’ futures at the club.

Kieran McKenna led the Tractor Boys back to the top flight for the first time in over 20 years and some players on the books at Portman Road were left to enjoy the success from afar, having not played a part in the promotion campaign.

With reinforcements going to be needed as the Suffolk side go toe-to-toe with the best that the country has to offer, those on the fringes of the current squad will be saying their goodbyes as they head to pastures new.

One of those will more than likely be Gassan Ahadme, although the striker will be a player in demand after his most recent campaign in League One with Cambridge United.

Gassan Ahadme EFL career: Burton Albion, Ipswich Town, Cambridge United

Ahadme was brought to East Anglia in the summer of 2022, after impressing for fellow League One side Burton Albion in the second half of the previous season.

The striker failed to make an impact at Portman Road though, with six substitute appearances in the league before returning to the Pirelli Stadium on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

With Town achieving promotion from the third tier, the Moroccan’s chances of game time with his parent club were becoming all the more limited; leaving him no choice but to face another temporary spell away from the club for the 23/24 campaign.

The destination of choice was Cambridge United, and it was at The Abbey that the striker has finally begun to prove his outstanding quality at the level, with his eleven goals helping the U’s to stay in the division for another season.

Whether it was with his head or with his feet, the frontman claimed some crucial goals for the Amber Army, including a run of six goals in five games before the Christmas period.

Had he not suffered a foot injury over the festive period that ruled him out for three months, United’s plight could have been a lot easier in League One, with his goals proving pivotal to their eventual survival.

The striker continued where he left off upon his return to the side, with three goals over the Easter weekend helping to allay any relegation fears, as the U’s defeated Barnsley and Wigan Athletic in the space of four days.

Gassan Ahadme Ipswich Town contract information

With Ahadme’s contract at Portman Road having just one year remaining, it makes sense for all parties for the Moroccan to find a new side ahead of the new season, with half of the third tier likely to have eyes on the striker.

Whether the U’s can tempt him to return to The Abbey remains to be seen, although Garry Monk [pictured] would surely love to have the fearsome frontman back in his ranks ahead of the new campaign.

With his proficiency of scoring goals at the level, any club with loftier aspirations in the division will likely have their heads turned by the former Burton Albion man’s availability, with the likes of Charlton Athletic and Oxford United never likely to turn down a goal-getter if it was offered to them.

Whether Championship clubs would have an interest in the forward remains to be seen, but with no experience at the level to date, it could be seen as a gamble to put expectation on his shoulders in the second tier.

But with a record of a goal every other game for United last season, it could be a bargain buy that works wonders for a side in the second tier, with the Tractor Boys surely willing to sell ahead of their shot at the big time.
