The Tractor Boys face top flight competition from Spain and Germany
Ipswich Town's ambitious attempt to secure Como striker Ivan Azón on loan appears to be stalling, with the 22-year-old Spanish forward reportedly preferring a move to Valencia despite the Blues offering superior financial terms.
The Tractor Boys emerged as surprise contenders for Azón's signature on Friday after negotiations between Como and Valencia hit an impasse.
However, according to Spanish outlet AS.com, the former Spain U21 international remains committed to joining Valencia's project at the Mestalla, causing him to delay responses to approaches from Ipswich, Getafe, and an unnamed Bundesliga club.
Reports in Spain suggest Ipswich have tabled the most attractive financial proposal to Serie A side Como, including coverage of Azón's wages plus a substantial loan fee.
The 22-year-old joined the Italian outfit in February but is yet to make an appearance, having previously netted 27 goals in 150 appearances for previous club, Real Zaragoza.
This comprehensive package demonstrates both Kieran McKenna's determination to strengthen his attacking options following the inevitable departure of Liam Delap to Chelsea , and his recruitment team’s faith in the somewhat unknown forward.
Valencia and Como's protracted negotiations have reportedly reached a standstill, with no communication between the clubs for several days.
The Spanish side are said to be exploring alternative targets as they reassess their striker strategy.
Italian media claimed that Azón was edging closer to joining Ipswich on loan with an option to buy contingent on Premier League promotion, though these claims appear premature given the player's reported preference for Valencia.
This pursuit of Azón represents part of Ipswich's broader strategy to recruit young, promising forwards with Championship experience or equivalent quality.
The club's willingness to offer superior financial terms to established European clubs demonstrates their serious intent to compete at the top end of the division this season, with many pre-season predictions mooting the Tractor Boys for an immediate return to the top flight.
Beyond the young Spanish prospect, Ipswich have also joined the race for former Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie, according to Alan Nixon.
The 29-year-old Scotland international is available as a free agent following Las Palmas' relegation from La Liga, offering a contrasting option with proven Championship pedigree from his Bramall Lane days.
Ipswich, of course, will have a significant transfer budget owing to their parachute payments along with the sale of Delap, and supporters will want to see that reinvested into the top-end of the pitch between now and the end of the month as Town bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
