Joining from Tranmere Rovers in 2019, James Norwood went on to spend three years at Ipswich Town.

Of course, prior to signing for the Tractor Boys, Norwood had been in seriously impressive form in the National League and League Two.

For example, after joining Tranmere Rovers in 2015, Norwood hit double digits and then some in three consecutive seasons, eventually helping the club win promotion back into the EFL via the National League play-offs.

His impressive goalscoring run continued in the EFL, too, convincing Ipswich to snap him up at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

In that season, Norwood had netted 32 goals and registered four assists in all competitions, helping Tranmere reach the League Two play-off final and win back-to-back promotions, taking them up to League One.

James Norwood's Ipswich Town career

Unfortunately for Norwood, though, he was never able to repeat those numbers in an Ipswich Town shirt.

Considering it was another step up in levels, Norwood's goal tally was steady enough, though, and in 2019/20, he netted 11 times and registered three assists.

The following season, he scored just nine goals, though, assisting his teammates on three occasions. This campaign, in 2020/21, also saw Norwood miss a significant chunk of games through injury.

It was a similar story the next season, with Norwood missing much of the first half of the campaign at Portman Road, before eventually going on to make 23 League One appearances and score six goals.

As discussed above, Norwood spent three years at Ipswich, eventually moving on in 2022 to join Barnsley on a free transfer.

Norwood would only go on to spend a single season at Oakwell, though, despite putting his injury problems at Ipswich behind him.

Indeed, in 2022/23, Norwood made 49 appearances in all competitions for Barnsley as they reached the League One play-off final only to come up short against Sheffield Wednesday.

Of course, Norwood's goals contributed to that run, with the striker netting 11 goals and registering four assists in the league, his joint-best third-tier return.

Despite that, though, Norwood moved on from Barnsley last summer, dropping down in levels significantly to join Oldham Town in the National League.

Norwood had previously been prolific in that division when there earlier in his career, and it seems he has certainly not forgotten how to find the back of the net, either.

So far this campaign, he has featured 29 times in the division for Oldham, scoring a more than respectable 16 times at present, a tally that will no doubt increase between now and the end of the season.

Norwood's Oldham side sit seventh in the division at the time of writing, with 12 games left to play.

Having fallen short twice in the National League play-offs previously, Norwood will be hoping to win his second promotion into the EFL come May, leveling up his fifth-tier play-off success rate to 2-2.
