Ipswich have admired the young Spaniard for a while now.

Ipswich Town have received a boost in their pursuit of Marc Guiu as Chelsea want the striker to go out on loan this season.

Liam Delap's £30 million departure to Stamford Bridge left a big hole for the Tractor Boys to fill this summer.

He scored a third of their goals last season in the Premier League, which attracted interest from some of the biggest teams in this country and across Europe - large boots to fill for whichever number nine they bring in.

Guiu, one of Delap's new teammates, emerged as an option for Ipswich around the time that Delap was sealing his move to Stamford Bridge.

It was reported by The Guardian that they were keen on bringing in the Spaniard on loan. Guiu, 19, only arrived in London last summer after being bought by Enzo Maresca's side from Barcelona for £5 million.

He came through the club's infamous academy, La Masia, which has produced some of the best players to ever step on a football pitch.

Unfortunately for Ipswich, the teenager was reportedly not keen on dropping down to the Championship to play at Portman Road. Town were linked with Manchester City's Divin Mubama as well, but he has joined Stoke City on loan.

Kieran McKenna's side never fully lost interest in Guiu, however, as per The Athletic.

Their patience may soon be rewarded as, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are keen for the young goalscorer to go out on loan next season, preferably to an English club.

Any deal for him wouldn't include an option to buy him at the end of said temporary spell, but their clear desire to see Guiu hone his craft in this country gives Ipswich an improved chance of landing him this summer.

Through both injury issues and the sheer size of Maresca's squad, the teenager's on-pitch opportunities were fairly limited last season.

The main bulk of his action, where he got to show off his talents, came in the Europa Conference League. He scored six times in seven appearances in the competition.

At six-foot-two, he would be able to offer a physical presence at the point of Ipswich's attacking arrow.

Hopes of him emulating the levels that Delap was at in the previous campaign should be tempered, though.

It will take time for someone like Guiu, with his inexperience of football in this country, and particularly of the Championship, to get fully up to speed and used to its demands.

Get past that point however, and Town could have a real player on their hands, if they convince him that a move to Suffolk would be a good one for him.
