However, a move for the Northern Irishman is yet to fully materialise and that will give plenty of hope to both the Blues and Manchester United, with the latter also being linked with a move for their former coach.

The Red Devils are yet to sack Erik ten Hag though, perhaps understandably with United yet to play their FA Cup final tie against arch-rivals Manchester City.

But it may only be a matter of time before Man United part ways with the Dutchman, which may persuade the likes of Brighton and Chelsea to move quickly for their top managerial targets before United enter the market for a new boss.

That isn't great news for Ipswich, with the Seagulls and the Blues both seemingly having McKenna high up on their managerial target list.

The latter are on the prowl for a new manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, who struggled at times but showed some promise during the latter stages of his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Some fans aren't happy with Pochettino's departure, but the club will need to move on quickly and appoint a new boss, now the decision has been made for him to depart the English capital.

Chelsea boosts emerge involving Kieran McKenna

According to a report from the Daily Mail, McKenna is open to taking the top job at Stamford Bridge.

Some would see the role as a poisoned chalice, with the Blues having a high managerial turnover rate.

As well as this, it's clear that plenty of their players are yet to fulfil their potential and still have plenty of work to do to become a major asset for the London-based outfit.

This seemingly hasn't deterred McKenna though.

On top of this report from the Daily Mail, TWTD are reporting that the Blues are McKenna's representatives' preferred option at this point.

This is because of the relationship that already exists between the two parties.

A move to Chelsea would be risky for Kieran McKenna

Considering how well McKenna has done at Portman Road, he has plenty of credit in the bank.

And because of this, you feel the Tractor Boys will stick with McKenna, even if they go through a very difficult period next term, something that could happen.

This is a key reason why he should be considering the possibility of staying at Portman Road for at least another season.

A switch to Stamford Bridge would be risky, because there's plenty of work to be done in the English capital.

The Blues may have shown some promise during the latter stages of the campaign, but there are no guarantees that they will be able to build on that.

It's a risk that McKenna doesn't need to take - and he should be looking to stay at Portman Road for now.
