Arsenal were rampant against the ten-men of Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, easing to a 4-0 win in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta's team selection was somewhat of a surprise given their midweek effort at Real Madrid, with the Arsenal boss opting against wholesale changes at Portman Road.
A strong Gunners XI proved far too much for the soon-to-be relegated Ipswich, who were reduced to ten men after goals from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli helped the visitors into a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark.
Leif Davis' justified dismissal for a nasty tackle on Bukayo Saka's Achilles allowed Arsenal to stroll for the final hour of the contest as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League and opened up a seven-point lead over Newcastle in third. Champions League football for next season is all but secure.
Preservation was the aim of the game for Arteta in the second period, as Trossard added his second and Arsenal's third with another pinpoint finish after receiving Declan Rice's reverse pass. Ethan Nwaneri put the finishing touches on an efficient afternoon's work for the Gunners in the closing stages of the contest, as his deflected effort beat a helpless Alex Palmer.
