Inzaghi: ‘Inter worked to eliminate errors after deserved defeat’

Simone Inzaghi concedes Inter ‘lost deservedly’ to Milan and have worked on ‘eliminating those errors’ starting from this afternoon’s tricky trip to Udinese.

It kicks off at the Bluenergy Stadium at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

The mood in the Nerazzurri camp is low after a stuttering start to the season, drawing away to Genoa and Monza then losing the Derby della Madonnina to rivals Milan.

Nicolò Barella picked up a muscular injury in that game and is replaced here by Davide Frattesi, while Yann Bisseck and Matteo Darmian come in for Benjamin Pavard and Denzel Dumfries.

“The team worked well and tried to analyse where we should’ve done better. There were moments when we should’ve been more of a team, so we lost that game deservedly. Now we have to focus on eliminating the errors that we made,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

After winning the Scudetto with such a dominant run, are Inter feeling oddly sated and no longer with the hunger required to win those individual duels?

“We conceded a goal with the team in the right positions and another on a set play, so we didn’t allow Milan that many chances, but it was about the details. We knew Milan had this quality of changing pace, we tried to understand where we could do better, especially as Udinese are doing very well and we must be prepared.”

Inzaghi trusts Inter to change gear

Lautaro Martinez has not scored a single goal yet this season, despite being the Capocannoniere last term and top scorer for Argentina at the Copa America over the summer, but Inzaghi is not concerned.

“I wouldn’t just talk about Lautaro, but a whole team that is mature, that is obviously not happy with the most recent performance and knows it must do better. There are dangers in this fixture against an Udinese side in good form.”

Frattesi gets a rare start in midfield, as Barella is out injured, and Inter hope he can bring some of his Italy form to club level.

“It’s an important opportunity, Davide works hard and has done so much for us, it’s his chance to start, just as he did in Monza and coming off the bench with Manchester City and Milan. He mustn’t feel any extra pressure at starting, just do what he always did,” concluded Inzaghi.
