Simone Inzaghi feels that Marko Arnautovic starting for Inter Milan against Monza makes sense as “he’s always made his contribution.”
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash.
The Austrian gets the nod in attack. He leads the line for the Nerazzurri against Monza alongside club captain Lautaro Martinez.
That means that Marcus Thuram drops to the bench to rest. And it also means that the likes of Joaquin Correa and Mehdi Taremi also have to settle for a place on the bench.
Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi made clear ahead of this evening’s match that “I tried to name the best possible lineup.”
“There are some changes to the team that started in Rotterdam,” he continued. “Let’s see what happens.”

Inzaghi warned that “Today won’t be easy.”
“Monza have always caused problems for us,” he added.
The Inter coach also explained Arnautovic’s selection. “He’s one of our five strikers,” he said.
“He’s always made his contribution for us.”
“Thuram is dealing with a bit of a knock,” Inzaghi then said. “And Correa and Taremi are also giving us a hand.”
“Lautaro and Arnautovic start,” the Nerazzurri coach said. “Then we’ll see what happens during the match.”
Of Inter’s injury crisis, Inzaghi noted that “we’ve objectively had problems on the left flank.”
“Bastoni has adapted well,” he went on. “And then Carlos Augusto is also back, but I preferred to keep him on the bench at first since he hasn’t played for almost three weeks.”
“Injuries can happen when we play so many matches. And we’ve had them.”
“But we have to focus on tonight,” Inzaghi made clear.
“Then we have two more matches, and then the international break. We hope that we can get some other players back.”
And Inzaghi also said that he’s “extremely pleased” with the reception from the fans at the San Siro. “The guys deserve it, because they’re doing something great.”
“The season we’re facing isn’t easy. This is already the 41st match, and then we’ll also have the Club World Cup.”
“But we’re proud to be fighting on all fronts. And we’ll try to give our best for the fans who want the best from Inter.”
