Simone Inzaghi feels that Inter Milan needed tremendous “mental strength” to react against Bayern Munich yesterday evening.
The Nerazzurri coach also hailed his side’s “unity” in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter Milan did it the hard way in many respects against Bayern yesterday.
Going into the match with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, Inter were fairly passive during a cagey first half. Neither team looked willing to blink first.
In the second half, Harry Kane broke the deadlock for Bayern.
That looked like a potential turning point in not just the match but the entire tie.
Bayern had been probing for a long time, with Inter’s defense just about holding firm. But once the Bavarians found away through, the Nerazzurri needed to entirely rethink their approach.
But Inzaghi’s Inter did just that. Immediately, they started to play much more proactive and attacking football.
And the reward came quickly, in the form of quickfire goals from Lautaro Martinez and Benjamin Pavard from set pieces.

As for how his team flipped the switch so quickly, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said “we kept our heads in it.”
“We conceded a goal when we were not doing well,” he continued. “Mkhitaryan had went down after a blow to the head, they rightly played on, and then we conceded.”
“But a team that isn’t mentally strong doesn’t react like that,” declared the Inter coach.
“Instead, the team stayed switched on and continued with our game plan.”
“These are nights that will stay with us,” Inzaghi continued.
“Playing these two matches against Bayern, who are a top opponent, was very difficult. But this is repayment for all the days I’ve spent together with the guys.”
Inzaghi said that “without great men, you can’t play matches like this.”
“I’m a very lucky coach,” he beamed.
And as for Inter’s “secret” Inzaghi said that “I think it’s how the guys stick together.”
“Today Correa, Zielinski, and Dumfries were unavailable,” he noted. “But they were still with us on the extra bench.”
“There’s unity here,” said the Nerazzurri coach. “Everyone knows that they’re useful to the cause, and they’re always ready.”
