Bahrain-based fund Investcorp had been interested in purchasing Inter before they were linked with AC Milan, but they declined to make an offer in the end.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, who report that the amount of debt at the Nerazzurri had been the main concern which prevented the fund from making an offer.

Investcorp look to be out of the race to sign AC Milan, having failed to reach an agreement with current Rossoneri owners Elliott Management.

However, the Baharin-based fund had been in advanced talks with the Nerazzurri’s city rivals for some time before their attempt to purchase the club collapsed.

As La Repubblica reveals, however, even before Investcorp’s pursuit of the Rossoneri they were initially keen on buying the Nerazzurri from Suning as they aimed to purchase a major Italian football club, but the debt at the club convinced them to turn their attention to the Rossoneri.
