Wingback Robin Gosens showed real flashes of why Inter have placed their trust in him to replace Ivan Perisic long-term in his performance in yesterday evening’s 4-2 friendly loss to Villarreal.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who argue that the 28-year-old showed the kind of player he was at Atalanta, a bright spot for an otherwise fairly drab evening for the Nerazzurri.

Gosens has yet to really leave his mark on Inter, with the German having been firmly behind Perisic in the pecking order for the left flank for all of the second half of last season after joining during the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s preseason has not been ideal due to a muscle problem which ruled him out of a couple friendlies and deprived him of crucial time on the training pitch getting fully up to speed with the team.

However, Gosens’s display in yesterday evening’s friendly against Villarreal suggested that this has not been too much of a problem, and that he could still arrive at the start of the season looking like the player who convinced Inter to sign him from Atalanta.
