Inter central midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has stated that it is always nice for him to be involved in the Italian national team following their international friendly win over European minnows Estonia last night.

Vincenzo Grifo opened the scoring for the Azzurri after 14 minutes, Federico Bernardeschi doubled Italy’s lead on the 27th minute and Italy went in to the half time interval with a two goal lead. Grifo scored again on the 75th minute and Riccardo Orsolini rounded off the scoring in the 4-0 win with a few minutes to spare.

“Is it a privilege to be here? Absolutely, yes. Being called by the coach and being part of this group is always nice. It is not up to me to comment on things said externally. When they call me up I always try to do the best. It was a good match,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai Sport, following the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi last night.

He was then asked how it is possible to become part of an already established group: “I think the coach has made a very important journey with a well-determined group, it’s not easy to be part of it but it’s up to us to show that we can be part of it. Then it’s up to the coach to make his choices.”

Next the former Atalanta player spoke on having to play alongside several new players and how the first and second halves differed.

“We played with new players, we didn’t know each other, we have different ways of playing. In the first half there was more rust in looking for the right lines, in the second half it went better, we had more control of the game and it was easier.”

He was then asked about whether he felt best with Sandro Tonali close by or positioned in front of the defence: “I feel good in both places, they are different roles but I feel good in both cases.”
