Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella’s role in the 3-0 win over Sassuolo yesterday was a success, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper la Stampa.

The report details how the 23-year-old Italian midfielder, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2024, played in a deeper position against the Neroverdi, as a central pivot in a midfield five.

Instead of playing further up the pitch like in the past, Barella featured more as a regista, being the central pivot in the absence of Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The Nerazzurri’s midfield looked better with him in this position, helping the side secure the three points against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Barella has made 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1015 minutes. In that time, he has provided four assists, being one of the best players in the Nerazzurri squad.

Last season he scored four goals and provided eight assists.
