Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has revealed that he expected to finish higher in the Ballon D’or rankings earlier this week.
Martinez finished seventh in the rankings and that brought about mixed reactions from Serie A fans, who would have thought that he should’ve finished higher.
Today, he scored against Empoli and as a result, he became the highest scoring non-Italian player in Nerazzurri history, capping himself as an iconic figure in the history of the club already.
After the win over ten-men Empoli, the Argentine spoke to DAZN about the Ballon D’or rankings and he said, as relayed by TMW:
“It can be improved. Honestly, I expected more, but I work for Inter and Argentina and sometimes these awards are not chosen in the right way. I’m getting back in shape, I arrived late. We all work to give our best on the pitch, we must continue on this path”.
Martinez did start the season slowly but he has made a mark in the last few weeks. He has now scored four times in the league and has three assists as well. He would want more but it is far better than it was earlier in the campaign.
