Inter are in danger of having to ‘put their ambitions back in the drawer’ due to the club’s financial problems, a report in the Italian media warned today.

As per Corriere della Sera’s print edition, lots of people at the club are asking questions about Steven Zhang’s project for the Nerazzurri, after he ‘carelessly’ returned to Milan to celebrate the Serie A title without having a clear plan.

Inter are due to secure a €250 million loan deal from either Bain Capital or Oaktree this week, but that deal does not mean they will have better room for maneouvre in the transfer window.

Instead, the Nerazzurri must self-finance any deals while reducing their wage bill by 15%, and they must also agree salary deferrals with their players.

Zhang will need to meet with Antonio Conte and Inter’s directors after Sunday’s final game of the season, against Udinese, and explain what direction the club is heading in.

Inter currently don’t know who their head coach will be for certain next season, and they also have uncertainty surrounding key players and who might need to be sold.

It cannot be excluded, the report warned, that Inter will have to finish their ‘cycle’ with Conte and Suning before it has even truly begun.
