Inter defender Diego Godin will officially sign for fellow Italian side Cagliari on Monday, taking the shirt number 2, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report details how work in Sardinia regarding the player’s announcement and arrival has already started, with coach Eusebio Di Francesco discussing the 34-year-old Uruguayan in a press conference earlier today.
Godin, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system last season, often being benched in place of 21-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni.
The former Atletico Madrid man will wear the number 2 at the Rossoblu, the report continues, and will be looked to as both a leader and example for the young players in the squad.
Godin made 36 appearances across all competitions last season, for a total of 2800 minutes. In that time, he scored twice, provided one assist and helped the side keep 13 clean sheets.
