Inter’s hopes of signing Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain this month could depend heavily on Neymar’s future, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Neymar has never seen eye to eye with El Matador and his departure would force Inter to work with greater diplomacy for a deal.
On the other hand, Cavani would become easier to coax away from Paris if the Brazilian forward opted to remain for another year.
“Cavani would not say no to a three-year deal worth €9 million annually,” the paper assured this morning.
“Agreeing to join Inter, though, would mean changing his future plans; or rather staying another year in Paris, having one last shot at the Champions League and then finishing his career in a profitable corner of the footballing world.”
Inter have asked Cavani’s agent Marcelo Simonian to begin mediation work with PSG, with whom he is on good terms.
They have also recruited an anonymous Italian agent to handle talks with Cavani himself, who does not appear to have decided on what he wants.
“Cavani hasn’t closed the door on Antonio Conte’s side but he hasn’t opened it either,” Corriere reported.
“Inter hoped he would give them a sign this week but it looks like they might need to wait a few more days.”
PSG play Rennes in the Trophee des Champions on Saturday and it seems likely Cavani will not give a response before then.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning he had already declined a move to the Nerazzurri.
