ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Sanches has been linked to Liverpool numerous times this season, with one report back in December of 2020 claiming that the club have made him a top priority transfer target. With Gini Wijnaldum out of contract at the end of the season and seemingly set to leave the club on a free transfer, Sanches could be a sensible signing and fill the gap Wijnaldum could leave in the squad.

The Portuguese international could be a good signing for a number of reasons. For starters, he is only 23 and has many years ahead of him. This means that Klopp could have the time to coach Sanches and develop him as a player, potentially increasing his value and either selling him on for huge profit years later or having him in the side as an important player.

His performances for Lille last season also highlighted the quality he is able to produce. He averaged an excellent WhoScored rating of 7.13 in Ligue 1 across 16 starts, impressing with his ability to win the ball back in his own half whilst also being able to progress the ball with both his passing and dribbling skills. Sanches could be valuable in both boxes and help Liverpool transition from defence to attack with his skillset, due to his dynamism and ability to tackle and play with the ball at his feet.
