The UK government is planning to relax rules for players returning from red-list countries during international breaks in a bid to avoid a repeat of the fiasco that struck back earlier this month.

Fabinho, Alisson and Roberto Firmino were all handed 5-day bans from football by FIFA after they stayed in this country rather than reporting for Brazil for international duty.

Those bans were overturned, of course, and the former pair played against Leeds United with it now looking as though we won’t get a repeat during the next break next month:

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

This is common sense and it’s good to see.

There is surely a way the players can be playing for their country and then their club safely now we’ve had time to look at processes and hopefully that can be sorted.
