It was another interesting weekend of international football with fixtures taking place all across the globe.

And now it’s awards time.

The Young At Heart Award

Spare a thought for Andorra’s Ildefons Lima, who must be extremely aware of his own mortality right now.

Playing professional football at the age of 41 is very impressive, but when you’ve got young whippersnappers like Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka buzzing around you, it must be a nightmare.

The veteran defender came on as a substitute during the first half on Saturday night and then had to go off in the second when his hamstring gave way. But at least he saw the funny side

The man is, indeed, a legend.

The Felt Cute Might Delete Later Award

Bet you didn’t know Lionel Messi could smoulder, did you?

But it wasn’t even the best selfie featuring the Argentine superstar taken this weekend.

The Very Early Bath Award

By earning a second booking for time wasting in the first half of Northern Ireland’s defeat to Switzerland, Jamal Lewis was the victim of one of the strangest sending offs we’ve seen for some time.

That’s one to tell the grandchildren about.

The Wholesome Content Award

This one is pretty self-explanatory really. Just watch and let it melt your heart.

Aren’t they lovely?

The World’s Greatest Award

Some 36-year-olds can’t step onto a football pitch without getting injured. Cristiano Ronaldo can’t step onto one without breaking some kind of record these days.

We’re not saying he’s the best player ever but when it comes to international football, he’s a pretty strong contender for the GOAT.

Although this guy isn’t bad either

The Yes Sir I Can Boogie Award

Possibly the best sound of the weekend was Hampden Park in full voice after Scott McTominay’s late winner for Scotland against Israel.

Just crank up the volume and listen to that.

The Dad Joke Award

After publicly declaring his opposition to the Covid-19 vaccine last week, it was inevitable that Callum Robinson would score his first and second goals for the Republic of Ireland this weekend.

It prompted a slew of jokes on social media. Here are some of the best of them

The If Anything He’s Hit It Too Well Award

The goal of the weekend was scored by Italy’s NicolĂČ Barella as he volleyed home in their Nations League third place play-off victory over Belgium.

A strike which was as cool as Roberto Mancini’s coat.

The FIFA Finesse Award

We can only assume Karim Benzema is so annoyed by how unbeatable the goalkeepers can be on FIFA 22 that he decided to take matters into his own hands and score a classic finesse goal in real life during Sunday’s Nations League final.

The Law Is An Ass Award

Everyone in the world watching the Nations League final was surely expecting Kylian Mbappé’s winning goal to be ruled out for offside.

But it turns out we’re all just idiots who still don’t know the ins and outs of the offside rule.

Football is stupid sometimes.

The Hello Old Friend Award

We could hardly have been more delighted to see the tiny car from Euro 2020 make a glorious comeback as it delivered the match ball for the Nations League final.

If you ask us, every single match worldwide should begin with a tiny car driving onto the pitch. We will never, ever get tired of seeing it.
