The England captain and Tottenham talisman came off with an ankle injury late in the 2-2 draw against Everton at the weekend – which happened to be Mourinho’s final game in charge. And Mason, heading into the game against Southampton, has confirmed that Kane is a doubt for the clash, having not trained with the team.

“I’m not sure currently. He didn’t train today. It’s one of those cases where we’re taking it day by day. We’re still not sure about the weekend yet but what we do know is that Harry is working extremely hard to get over this injury.”

Apart from Kane, Mason also issued an update on the situation of Tottenham defender Matt Doherty, confirming that the Irishman was back in contention. Ben Davies, though, will remain unavailable.

“Matt returned to the training group yesterday, Ben I am not sure how long he has until he gets back. That’s all we’ve got at the moment.”
