Inter’s bid to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United could receive a boost from the unlikeliest of sources, according to Sport Mediaset.
The Nerazzurri’s arch rivals Juventus seemed certain to pinch their top transfer target as they edged closer to swapping Lukaku with Paulo Dybala.
However, the Bianconeri might now help Inter re-overtake them in the race for the Belgian by selling Mario Mandzukic to United.
Mandzukic joining United would ensure they no longer needed to worry about seeking a replacement for Lukaku, thereby allowing Inter to continue negotiations after the Premier League transfer window shuts on Thursday.
United had identified Dybala as the ideal player to take Lukaku’s place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, but talks have fallen through due to the player’s wage demands.
Dybala wanted an annual salary worth €12 million to leave Juventus while his entourage wanted an eye-watering €15 million commission.
Inter have now regained the ground they lost last week and could make a new €70 million plus bonuses offer soon.
The Nerazzurri have already had a €60 million plus bonuses offer rejected by United, who seem unwilling to drop their €83 million asking price.
