Inter Wingback Denzel Dumfries: “Venezia Changed Formation To Play Us, Great Win”

Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries is glad to have gotten three points against dogged opposition in this evening’s Serie A clash with Venezia.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 25-year-old praised the opposition for a tactically disciplined performance to make life difficult for he and his teammates and hailed the significance of the victory.

Dumfries came on for Matteo Darmian during the second half at the San Siro, and as Darmian had provided an excellent cross to help set up Nicolo Barella’s equalizer, the Dutchman assisted Edin Dzeko for the winner with a lovely lofted delivery.

The former PSV man is beginning to settle in in an Inter shirt, and he proved it once again by showing his best off the bench to help his team get the result they wanted from a match that was anything but straightforward.

Now Inter go five points clear of AC Milan at the top of the table, and they can partly thank the Dutchman for this.

“I’ve been here long enough to know what my role is on the pitch,” Dumfries said. “We built a good move towards the end and found the winner.”

On Venezia’s performance he said, “All credit to them, they changed their formation to face us, but the important thing is that we won going into the international break.”

Asked whether he felt tired after January’s run of games, Dumfries replied “Of course. It will be good to have some time to rest before we resume after the break.”

And on the increasing appreciation that he receives from Inter fans, the 25-year-old said, “It’s true, yes, and it’s something that makes me incredibly happy.”
