Inter Wingback Denzel Dumfries: “Exceptional Performance, Needed A Game Like This”

Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries is glad to have gotten off the mark with his first Inter start, and pleased that he managed to show his best in this evening’s 6-1 demolition of Bologna.

Speaking to Inter TV after the match, the Dutchman was in confident mood after capping off a strong overall display with his first assist in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Dumfries did not immediately become a major part of the Inter team on the pitch after his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, having only featured from the bench in the Nerazzurri’s first three Serie A matches and against Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

This evening, however, the 25-year-old showed why the Nerazzurri had bought him, looking one of the most dangerous players on the pitch to help his new club to an emphatic win to put the disappointing loss to Real on Wednesday behind them.

“It was an exceptional performance, obviously I’m also happy for the assist,” he said, “getting my feet wet on my debut as a starter is a pleasure.”

Asked how he is adjusting to life at Inter, he said, “Very well, sometimes there were difficulties in the first few weeks because I couldn’t train with my former club. Now everyone is helping me, the fans have welcomed me in a great way and I’m also learning a little Italian.

“I felt I needed a match like this,” the Dutchman reflected, “I thank all my teammates, especially [Stefan] De Vrij who is helping me to fit in very well. I’m very happy.”
