Perisic has been in excellent form this season for the Nerazzurri, leading to reports that the club hope to secure the 32-year-old’s future beyond next summer when his current deal expires.

However, the player is only focused on the present and will not get distracted by the matter of his contract which he feels will be dealt with in due time.

For the moment, the most immediate matter for his and his teammates’ attention will be a Champions League group stage clash with Real Madrid tomorrow, a head-to-head match to finish top of the group.

On the difference in style of play this season compared to last at Inter, Perisic stated that “In my opinion there is not much difference, we play with the same system and have known each other for many years.”

“The formation is the same,” he went on, “this year we did better in the Champions League because we created more and scored more goals. We deserved to get out of the group whereas last season it was just out of reach.”

“The last two years have been wonderful for me, but it’s the past,” the Croat stated. “I’m hungry as are the whole team, and we want to win again this year.”

“I don’t like talking about the future,” he said about his contract, “I’m focused on the present and we want to give everything.”

Perisic stated that “Last year I changed positions, it was a bit difficult because it’s a more demanding role than I had before.”

“We’ll see in a couple of months if it will be my best season,” he added, “because if we don’t win anything I won’t think of it that way, I won’t enjoy it the same way.”

“At the European Championship I had COVID and then a few days to rest well,” the wing-back explained, “I worked hard and I hope to continue like this.”

Asked about his contract situation, Perisic reiterated “”As I said before, I don’t like talking about the future. I’m focused on tomorrow’s match, we want to finish top of the group.”

“There is still time,” he added, “we’ll talk and in a couple of weeks we’ll see what happens.”

On what the team plans to do to stop Real winger Vinicius Junior, Perisic stated that “We certainly are aware of him because he is a fine played. I have seen almost all Real matches and he is playing very well.”

“They are strong,” he said of tomorrow’s opposition, “we must play as a team and play our football because if we continue as we have in the last few weeks, tomorrow will be great match.”

Of his national teammate and Real midfielder Luka Modric, Perisic stated that “Luka is first a great boy and then a truly top-class player. He is my captain, I have a lot of respect for him.”

“He always helps all of us,” he added. “It will be difficult for those who come after him, but in Croatia there are so many talents, such as Brozovic and Kovacic, who play in his position and they are capable of doing very well.”

“Let’s hope he can’t play tomorrow because it would be easier for us,” he joked. “He’s a fantastic player.”
